Sushi was okay. Not too bad, but nothing remarkable. The Bento box I had, Tenpura was okay, but Teriyaki beef wasn't so great. Teriyaki sauce was salty, and didn't have any good flavor. People were nice enough, but they need little more practice of Japanese food.

I heard this place was new from a buddy. Come to find out they have been here for 12 years. I couldn't find them on google, found them on Yelp and didn't know it existed. The place has really good food except for the salad dressing. Service was great, food came out quickly. Glad to know it is there. Will come back to try some more items.

Gyoza, miso soup, chef's choice and hot sake. AMAZING! Came in on a Saturday night, immediate seating and my entire meal was out inside of five minutes.

I've been a frequent vistor to Teru for years. Fi and Sandy do an excellent job of making patrons feel welcome. We had a birthday dinner with about 15-18 people here. Converted more sushi lovers to Teru. They even made the birthday boy a sushi cake.. yeah, that kind of service!!! The sushi quality here is fantastic, it is fresh and served generously. Fi doesn't skimp on actually putting the succulent fish on or in your rolls. He remembers litle things, like if you like extra ginger, or how I love extra onion in my spicy yellowtail. From Agadashi tofu, to nigiri, sake make, vegas rolls to hand rolls or chicken katsu, there's something for everyone. The food is great, the people are kind, you always feel good coming and going. It's a no brainer to try Teru out. You'll even make two new friends : )

I am constantly impressed by the quality of small, family-owned and operated, restaurants popping up in Cottonwood Heights. Teru Sushi is no exception to that. By no means is this restaurant new. I remember coming here for dinner one night when I first moved into Salt Lake (that was nearly 5 years ago). Terribly disappointed at the time, I vowed to stick to my standbys of Kyoto and Takashi. Until tonight, that is. Leaving meditation class at The Yoga Center, I had a craving for some fresh nigiri, and no desire to drive downtown so I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and searched for "sushi" nearby. To my surprise, Teru Sushi had a great 4.5/5 star rating and I read a comment that it was under new ownership. My fellow Yelpers know whats up! There were about 3 tables full of customers upon my arrival and I was seated promptly at the sushi bar (my request). I ordered a hot tea, seaweed salad and squid appetizer, and 3 orders of nigiri: Tuna, Yellowtail, and Escolar. I was beyond impressed by the cut and quality of the fish served. In total my bill came to less than $18 before tip. The one detail that I feel is a downside, are the disposable utensils that Teru Sushi provides its customers. Cheap wooden chopsticks, paper towel napkins instead of linens, and plastic bowls prevented me from giving Teru a 5-star review.

Best sushi in the valley. Unassuming and unpretentious, this is a family run business that cares about the food and the customers. I've been eating here since it opened, and every time I have sushi somewhere else, it gets measured against Teru. I could give some insider tips, but that'd be handing over the secrets earned from a dozen years of patronage. That said, do yourself two favors: 1) Ask for the Mars Roll done super spicy, and 2) Ask Fi for recommendations (he'll default to "albacore is good," but push it a little more and you may end up with something special).

Teru is great! The chef/owner is very nice and has an artistic flare that makes it fun to watch him work and even more fun to devour his artwork! The seafood is always fresh, bright and yummy. And the atmosphere is nice. I used to pick up food here every Wednesday night when my office was located close by. Now we just go occasionally, but we're never disappointed.

Five stars and more - I can't say enough about how great an establishment Teru Sushi is. I'm craving it at this very moment. It's located in an assuming shopping plaza next to a Papa Johns and you would never think incredible sushi is served here, but the sushi is Phi-nomenal (you'll get the pun later). I'll spare the proverbial "I've eaten sushi all across this world" comment which seems to be the trend with any favorite spot review but let me simply say, this is easily the best sushi in Utah and for a few reasons. The fish is impeccable. The salmon and my favorite, hamachi (yellowtail) tastes as if the fish was bathed in butter before it's delicately prepared and served. There are no fancy and artistic rolls that have been prepared like a stain glass window or want to cause you to instagram and use every filter imaginable to share the artistic beauty but instead, rolls are straightforward and that's what makes them beautiful. There are the staples; vegas roll, spicy tuna, etc but go for the Nigiri and Sashimi to enjoy how amazing the fish is. Then branch out to simple rolls like the Sake Maki or Spicy Yellotail. Their fried rolls are best enjoyed immediately when served so it's crispy and warm. Service is always attentive. I find myself drinking more water than I usually do in a days time and the owners are both awesome people who will remember your name and your favorite roll and at some point. I love sitting at the bar to talk with Phi, he's one of my favorite folks and it's always great to see him smile and share experiences; just a super nice guy. Sandy and her kids do their absolute best to make the dining experience fast and enjoyable. I love the orange halves they provide after the meals and they cleanse the palate very well. If you're not a sushi fan, check out the Chicken Katsu and their Bento boxes. Great portions, incredible value and price. Take it from a regular visitor for close to 8 years! PS. Get the yellowtail and salmon Sashimi and tell them Peng sent ya! :)

I love this place. I went Friday for lunch and the place was near empty, but I was there around 11:30, early for lunch in this area. The lady who seated me had my water to me before I even got my reading glasses out of my purse. I got the Bento box for $8.25. I had the tereyaki salmon and tempura with soup, rice and salad. The piece of salmon was a lot bigger then I expected. The piece was moist and flavorful. The tereyaki sauce was just right; not too sweet as some can be. The tempura was an assortment of veggies (with broccoli... SCORE!) and two pieces of shrimp. Lightly breaded and very good. Miso soup to start, little salad on the side and a bowl of rice. I was stuffed! When she brought me my check, she also brought a chilled orange for dessert. What a bonus! What really impressed me was the service. Prompt and courteous. And, as people started coming in for lunch, she knew some of the customers by name and asked them about their families, kids etc. Obviously lots of regulars here!

Easily the best sushi I've ever had. Ever. I have been to this place easily twenty times in the past eight months, each time with a new person, and they love it every time. The Jazz roll is life changing. Utterly life changing. I get it every single time. And the miso soup is fantastic every time as well. The setting is intimate and quiet. Good vibes all around this place. The chef is so cute and friendly, as well as the hostess. They are fast, friendly, and delicious. My boyfriend who has lived in Japan was very impressed with their sunset roll, and said the Jazz roll was the best tempura roll he's ever had as well. And the orange halves they serve at the end are a great palette cleanser. Definitely recommend 100%.

What a nice surprise! We have struggled for years to find a decent place for sushi in SLC. We've tried all the sushi spots in SLC with rave reviews, we've enjoyed some; though more for atmosphere than for the quality and freshness of the fish. The atmosphere at Takahashi, Naked Fish, Tsunami, etc. are no doubt better. The quality of the sushi at Teru is the best I've had in Utah. If I was reviewing this based on Utah, it would be five stars. Given I can only give Sushi Sam's in San Mateo, CA five stars ... I have to give Teru just four! If you are ever in the Bay Area, I highly recommend the chef's special at Sushi Sam's. It is the best sushi I have had ... period.

This place is amazing! It took me years to get into sushi, and I found a place that was perfect, but sadly it closed. Then I found Teru, and it's amazing! It's seriously some of the best sushi I have ever had. They are always super friendly and attentive. I love going there, and have yet to be let down. If you want sushi that is fresh beautiful, and tasty, this is the place to go.

Teru knows good sushi. Period. The fish is always fresh & cut perfectly. The rice consistency & taste is spot on. They offer all the classics, and willing to create anything you request (you've got to try the spicy baked mussels). And they top off every meal with a free 1/2 orange for dessert. The owners run the place and they clearly care about service & quality. Prices are very reasonable. I'd give them a 6 if Yelp would let me.

The sushi here is as fresh and as well prepared as any we ate in Japan. The small restaurant lends itself to having multiple return and well known visitors. On winter weekend nights you can wait a while - other nights its empty. Don't go if you are in a hurry but this is a not to be missed establishment. Ask for the Melissa roll or invent and name your own.

We got this place as take-out. I would give this place a 4, but I am delegating it a 3, for one reason in particular. The menu for Teru Sushi specifies Philadelphia roll as having cream cheese and salmon. That is how I know them (sometimes, they have cucumber). They came with avocado. I hate avocado, and they do not belong in my understanding of a Philadelphia roll... nor was it listed on the menu. Now, with that said I still want to give you a vision of the rest of the place. Their ginger and wasabi were excellent. Their time and execution are top notch. The cuts of fish were excellent. We got the Utah roll, and as long as you are okay with fried sushi and losing the healthiness factor (I was!), they are delicious. Really, really good. If only the Philadelphia roll I'd expected matched the ingredients I'd gotten, it would be an easy 4. Not everyone likes avocado, and you expect to get what you read as the ingredients.

After reading the glowing reviews here I decided to give Teru Sushi a try. It is definitely some of the worst sushi that I've had in Utah. All of the food was very bland and the fried rolls were soggy. It was also relatively expensive for lunch compared to other sushi places in the same area. The service was great which was the only reason I even gave it two stars. Will not be going back.

This was my favorite sushi place in Utah. In a landlocked state where all the fish is imported by one supplier it tastes the same at every restaurant. They have good rolls, great prices, and really convenient takeout. Be friendly and you will be on a first name basis with the owners in no time (hi, Sandy!). Traditional rolls, no gimmicks, great price. Next time get takeout sushi instead of pizza for the Superbowl.

The previous owner of Ichiban's now owns Teru Sushi. Teru has wonderful fresh sushi and great service. The prices are decent esp. for the high quality of fish which I understand is flown in weekly. The only place that I go to when I crave sushi, I recommend the Funky Charlie and the Mars roll. I've long suspected the secret is in the sauces and I never did find a place in Seattle that matched my palate for Teru Sushi, much to the owners disbelief. Can't wait to go back for the best sushi in town!

This place is a life saver for my fiancé and I! We have been on the road driving and camping from Michigan to here for about a week now. In that week we have not had any access to Asian food.... Thankfully we found this lovely restaurant via yelp and it is located close to our hotel! Yay! I ordered the tonkatsu and it was delicious. For $12 you get miso soup, salad, the katsu and rice! I loved that they cut it into slim strips instead of the fat strips some restaurants do. It's the perfect amount of food (and maybe even a bit more) for a hungry gal with a big appetite. Now, I can't say that I've ever been to a restaurant that made this dish poorly. It's always a safe and delicious bet when going to a Japanese restaurant. My fiancé ordered the Teru combo, sweet shrimp nigiri, and tako nigiri. He loved that they gave you the deep fried shrimp head with his nigiri order. His favorite sashimi pieces were the hamachi, salmon, and scallop. He didnt care for the tako nigiri and does not recommend it. The fish pieces were not too small or big. They were the right portion size. Also, they didn't over do it with the rice for the nigiri like many other Japanese restaurants do. Sweet bonus is they give you an orange for dessert! So sweet, juicy, and refreshing (: yummy!! Thank you Teru sushi for satisfying our sushi craving!
